La Loma is the ideal place to holiday at any time of the year as we have central heating in both casitas.
La Loma is a hilltop hideaway set amongst 4 acres of our own olive groves with magnificent panoramic views over Lake Iznajar, the charming villages of Iznajar and Rute and the surrounding mountains. Set on the edge of the Sierra Subettica, it is an ideal location for those seeking peace, tranquility, hillside walks, bird watching, painting/sketching and as a base from which to discover the cultural delights of Granada, Cordoba, Antequera, Ronda and Seville. Recently restored to include all the comforts of modern day living, there are two detached self catering casitas. There is a 10m by 5m swimming pool and outside, each casita has a private terrace and BBQ.
We are within 1 hour’s drive of both Granada and Malaga airports.
Accommodation
Casita La Loma has two bedrooms, two bath rooms a large spacious, comfortable living area and kitchen. The Casita has the benefit of central heating and a log burner.
The bedrooms are furnished with quality wooden furniture. The Master Bedroom has a double bed, bedside tables, large wardrobe and ensuite shower room.
The second bedroom has twin beds, bedside table, large wardrobe, ensuite shower room.
Both ensuite shower rooms are beautifully tiled and have double size showers, basin and WC.
There is a spacious open plan Kitchen / living area. The kitchen area is fitted in traditional Andalusia style with oven and hob. There is a fridge with freezer compartment, toaster, kettle etc and full range of cookware. There is a dining area with table and chairs.
The cosy lounge area is stylishly furnished with chair and 3 seater bed settee, coffee table, Satellite flat screen TV, DVD & CD player, games and books etc. Central heating and a wood burning stove make for cosy winter evenings.
Both bedrooms and lounge area have breathtaking panoramic views of Iznajar Lake and the surrounding countryside.
All rooms have beamed ceilings. The character of the casita has a rustic feel but with the comforts of modern day living.
We also have a smaller casita, La Almendra which sleeps 2.
Casita La Almendra has one double bedroom and a stylish open plan living area.
The Master bedroom has a double bed, bedside tables, large wardrobe, and ensuite shower room.
The ensuite shower room is beautifully tiled with large shower, basin and WC.
The open plan kitchen / living area has a traditional Andalucian kitchen area with built in oven and hob. There is a fridge with freezer compartment, toaster, kettle etc and full range of cookware. There is also a dining area with table and chairs for 2 people.
The cosy lounge area is stylishly furnished with 2 chairs, Satellite TV, DVD, games and books etc. There is also central heating for use in the cooler months.
Please note: We also have a one bedroom casita on site, Casita La Almendra, which can rented separately or in combination with Casita La Loma. Either to give sufficient space for larger parties or to ensure private pool use.
Activities
Golf
The nearest course to La Loma is the new course at Antequera which is now open. All 18 holes are challenging with plenty of water, narrow fairways, olive trees lining the first cut and subtle borrows on the greens. There are many interesting holes, a few spectacular ones and the views around the course are wonderful.
There is also a club at Granada, 50 mins drive, where non-members are welcome on weekdays. The famous golf courses of the Costa del Sol are approx 1 hour’s drive. Both Antequera and Granada green fees are considerably lower than on the coast and the courses are better than most public courses on the Costa.
Skiing
The Sierra Nevada Mountains are around an 1½ hour’s drive away and the Sol y Nieve resort hosted one of the 1996 world ski championships events. It is smaller than other Nieven resorts (though much friendlier than some of the other more famous European resorts) it has sufficient runs to satisfy all standards of skier and boarder.
Coast/Beach
Iznajar lake offers a sandy beach with swimming and boating available from the boat house, as well as fishing. The lake is a 10 mins drive away, and also offers a beach restaurant. The beaches of the Costa del Sol are an hour's drive away.
Travel
Malaga airport is 1 hour's drive from La Loma and Granada airport 50 mins drive. Travel from each airport is made easy by the excellent motorway system. Flights to Malaga: flybe.com, jet2.com, easyjet.com, flymonarch.com, bmibaby.com, britishairways.com. Flights to Granada: ryanair.com and flymonarch.com. Car hire is essential to fully appreciate the area. Both airports have many rental companies on site. Airport pick up/drop off can be arranged if needed.
Distances
Iznajar with its churches and Moorish castle is 10 minutes drive. La Loma is ideally situated to explore Cordoba, Malaga and Granada provinces. Antequera is a 20 minute drive, Granada and the Alhambra are 50 minutes by car, Cordoba is a 60 minute drive, and Seville is just 2 hours away. Priego de Cordoba, a stunning Moorish and baroque town is just an hour's drive.
The spectacular Torcal Park and Flamingo Lake near Antequera are just 30 minutes away. There are also Donkey Sanctury and Wolf Park in the same are.
Further details
Iznajar has plenty of shops, mini-supermarkets and banks with cash withdrawal points. There are plenty of rural restaurants.
For walkers there is a wealth of local walks to suit all abilities, including impressive El Torcal and Subetica National Parks. Horse riding is available 15 minutes away.
We also have local guides who can escort you on a number of walks to suit all abilities.
Escorted bird watching trips can also be arranged with a very experienced guide.
